In my reading of John 14:1-7 today, I am struck by two things.
- As Jesus was pondering His own betrayal, death, and separation from God to suffer the payment for our sin, He chose to focus on and encourage His disciples.
- He takes the opportunity to remind them of who He is and what He is going to do for them.
First Jesus reminds the disciples who to trust in -> the Father and Himself. He then goes on to explain what He has in store for them…an eternity in the presence of Himself and the Father. Lastly He makes a statement “You know the WAY to place where I am going.”
Then it is Thomas (doubting Thomas no less) that speaks up and says [my paraphrasing] “Lord, wait a minute. We don’t know where you are going, so how in the world are we supposed to KNOW the way?”
Jesus’ answer was simple -> “I am the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE. The only way through to the Father is THROUGH Me.”
THEREFORE, SINCE we are justified (acquitted, declared righteous, and given a right standing with God) through faith, let us [grasp the fact that we] have [the peace of reconciliation to hold and to enjoy] peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One). Through Him also we have [our] access (entrance, introduction) by faith into this grace (state of God’s favor) in which we [firmly and safely] stand. And let us rejoice and exult in our hope of experiencing and enjoying the glory of God. Romans 5:1-2 [AMP]
